USHL Draft Coverage- Josiah Didier

I have been contacted by sbnation.com to write up some profiles on players that may be drafted into the USHL this year in the USHL Entry Draft. I will be writing a profile almost every day leading up to the draft beginning with forwards, then on to defensemen, and finishing with goaltenders. These are in no particular order, as the Entry Draft is hard to predict. I haven't seen these players play either, so if you have seen them play and have something to add, please do. Enjoy!

Josiah Didier (Colorado Thunderbirds U16) is a big defenseman that has the size and skill necessary to make a big impact in the USHL and beyond. Didier stands at 6'3" and 190 pounds. That's very tall for a midget minor player. He has the size that can make him a star in the USHL next year. He potentially could be a very physical defenseman next year and that should make many teams drool over the potential of this young defenseman. But he's not just a big body out there on the ice. Didier made a big impact in the Tier 1 Elite League this year offensively. He very well could be one of the best offensive defensemen in the USHL next year. I can just about guarantee that whatever team Didier ends up on next year will use him as their powerplay quarterback. In 38 games of midget minor hockey this year, Didier had 20 points. Of those 20, 7 were goals and the 13 left were assists. Didier also got some time on the powerplay for the Thunderbirds this year, gathering 2 goals on the PP. I would compare Didier to Sioux City Musketeers defenseman Kevin Gravel. Not only do I make this comparison based on the size of these players, but also on the offensive production. Of course you can't expect Didier to get 20 points next year, but I do believe he can contribute and he very well could be your team's newest powerplay quarterback.

Please leave comments, I would love to hear them!

  1. "Father Joe" is an awesome young man on top of being a solid defenseman. Having watched him the past two years in Colorado, I can tell you he's a hustler, physical and, like you say, excellent at the point on the PP

  2. I played high school hockey with Jo and the kid just dominated that league. I personally have not seen him play with Thunderbirds but he looks and plays like a prospect that every team should want.

Keep it clean, and don't attack individual players.
