Weekend Preview

Want to know what games to keep track of this weekend? Look no further. These games have the USHL's biggest stars going against each other.

Friday 2/19/10: Des Moines v. Waterloo
This game will feature Des Moines' two stars, Connor Brickley and T.J. Tynan playing against Waterloo's super 15 year olds. Brickley and Tynan who will be drafted in the first or second rounds of this summer's NHL draft will be trying to improve their point totals on Waterloo. Brickley currently has 33 points and Tynan has 60. It is also possible that we can see these two offensive masterminds go against one of the the top goaltender prospects in the USHL, Willie Yanakeff, if he starts for Waterloo. But on the other side of the ice, Waterloo has two amazingly talented 15 year olds. Defenseman Nick Ebert has 13 points thus far and Brady Vail has 5. But don't let the stats fool you, these two are great for their age. They look like they belong and deserve to be in the USHL. They have the same level as skill as the 16, 17, and even 18 year olds that play in this league.
Saturday 2/20/10: Tri City v. Des Moines
I hate to do another game preview on Des Moines, but this is a can't miss game. Two of the USHL's most dynamic players are going up against each other. Jaden Schwartz for Tri City has 70 points and T.J. Tynan has 60 points. These two top scorers are both potential 1st round NHL draft picks. This game is the equivalent of the NHL's rivalry of Crosby v. Ovechkin. If you are planning to drop the money to watch a USHL game this weekend on B2, etc., this is the one to watch.

  1. No question of the offensive talent of these two as they both can put points on the board, but learning to play 5 on 5 hockey and handle the physical aspects of the game at both ends will be their challenge at the next level. Both are negative on the +/- which is eye raising considering the amount of points they are putting up.

  2. Yes, that's true, but you also have to take that they play for bad teams into consideration.

Keep it clean, and don't attack individual players.
