USHL Draft Coverage- Kevin Irwin

I have been contacted by sbnation.com to write up some profiles on players that may be drafted into the USHL this year in the USHL Entry Draft. I will be writing a profile almost every day leading up to the draft beginning with forwards, then on to defensemen, and finishing with goaltenders. These are in no particular order, as the Entry Draft is hard to predict. I haven't seen these players play either, so if you have seen them play and have something to add, please do. Enjoy!

Kevin Irwin (Cleveland Barons) is another talented forward out of the Tier 1 U18 Division. What's different about Irwin then the rest of the guys from this league that will be drafted into the USHL, is that he was born in 1993. Irwin tied for 22nd in points this year in the U18 Division with 49 points in 48 games. Of those 49 points, Irwin was very balanced with 25 goals and 24 assists. The forward from Hinkley, Ohio has been listed on the USHL CSS '93 list for a long time and has a 3 out of rating on that list. Irwin wasn't drafted last year which was a suprise, but I'm fairly sure we'll see him drafted this May. Irwin has good size and apparently good scoring ability. Irwin stands at 6'0"/170 which is pretty good size for a player at a level below the USHL. Stay tuned because I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing Kevin Irwin in the USHL next year.

Please leave comments, I would love to hear them!

  1. He was drafted by Des Moines in the futures draft last spring.

  2. Yes, he was, but (correct me if I'm wrong), I don't believe Irwin was placed on the Buc's 10 Man Affliate list, which would make him free game in the Entry Draft.

  3. East coast 93s - Gacek, Miller, Pike, Tringale, Prescott, Vesey, Cunningham

  4. Gacek was drafted last year, but otherwise, a nice list of potential draftees.

  5. I believe you are mistaken. Once drafted in the Futures Draft Des Moines owns his rights for 3 years. He is ineligible to drafted by another USHL team and it would make no sense for the Bucs to re-draft him.

  6. If the player is placed on the team's 12-man affiliate list, yes, the team does own said player's rights for 3 years. But, I heard, and my source could very well be wrong, that Irwin was not placed on that affiliate list. If someone knows for sure if Irwin was placed on the Bucs' affiliate list for sure, please feel free to comment.

  7. I know for a fact he is on their list, I checked with someone in the league. The way the rules are it would make no sense to drop him as they could only list 5 93 born players this year. Those player would all have to be drafted by them, or have played 10 games during the season to be on that list. It is highly unlikely that they could get another 93 to meet those qualifications before this years draft, unless they traded for one, which I don't believe they have.

  8. Alright, well if your source is legit, I'll take it. My source apparently wasn't correct.

Keep it clean, and don't attack individual players.
